REVIEW OF THE LANGUAGE POLICY
On 2 June 2006, the Language Task Group made its first proposals regarding the language policy of the University. These proposals are in the form of a conceptual framework. When these proposals are read, it should be borne in mind that they will form only one part of the full policy document and that the broader policy statements that are made will have to be given shape in a plan. For example, certain concepts (such as “predominantly Afrikaans” [oorwegend Afrikaans]) will have to be defined clearly in the proposals that will put the details related to the plan section into words. These details will be announced at a later stage.
In the following two position documents, the Task Group refers to the specific misconceptions about the T option in particular and bilingual teaching in general, as well as to problems relating to alternatives to the T option. |
